Korean Ethnic Mayor in Peru/Mario Jung

Despite the small size of its Korean population, Peru was the site of a major precedent for Korean immigrants' political integration when the city of Chanchamayo, Junín elected Mario Jung (정흥원, also spelled Mario Yung) as its mayor in 2011.[8] Jung thus became the first mayor of Korean descent not just in Peru but in all of South America, even though neighbouring countries such as Brazil have larger Korean populations and a much longer history of migration from Korea.[9] Jung, a South Korean citizen, had originally settled in Argentina in 1986 before coming to Peru in 1996.[9][10] Politically, Jung is a supporter of Fujimorism, and was known locally for his charitable work with the poor. Peruvian law requires that the president and members of Congress be Peruvian citizens, but does not place any requirements on lower-level politicians. Jung's inauguration was attended by South Korean consul Lee You-bum on behalf of ambassador Han Byung-kil.[1 _________________________________

Water Deer/Korea DAM Zone

This unusual small deer has a scientific name that means ‘unarmed water-drinker’, in reference to its lack of antlers and preference for marshy habitats. In the place of antlers, males have large upper canine teeth, that, in effect, are long, slightly curved tusks which protrude like fangs out of their mouths. The female is a little smaller than the male, and has much smaller canines. The Water deer's coat is rather coarse and thick, the color being reddish-brown during summer and more grayish during winter months, with whitish underparts. The young are darker brown and have white stripes and spots on the upper back.

Covid Patient Deprived of Staff Privillege Even Post Cured/South Korea

Post-acute covid-19 (“long covid”) seems to be a multisystem disease, sometimes occurring after a relatively mild acute illness.1 Clinical management requires a whole-patient perspective.2 This article, intended for primary care clinicians, relates to the patient who has a delayed recovery from an episode of covid-19 that was managed in the community or in a standard hospital ward. Broadly, such patients can be divided into those who may have serious sequelae (such as thromboembolic complications) and those with a non-specific clinical picture, often dominated by fatigue and breathlessness. The specialist rehabilitation needs of a third group, covid-19 patients whose acute illness required intensive care, have been covered elsewhere.3

Long Leg Wolf/Самый странный волк

The canine family has more than 30 species, and they all have a unique appearance and outstanding character, but among all the representatives, a truly unique predator can be distinguished. The body of a wolf, the head of a fox and the legs of a deer - this is how this animal can be characterized! We are talking about the maned wolf - a rare and amazing inhabitant of the Brazilian meadows, which hunts for rodents, but does not mind eating ripe fruit! Happy viewing!

Freezing Rainfall Vladibostok/Чудовищный ледяной дождь

Almost 30 thousand people were left without electricity in Primorye as a result of bad weather. Freezing rain and strong winds led to accidents in power grids. "It's raining here, and the temperature is below zero, minus 1." Utilities are now restoring damaged areas, but the ongoing precipitation complicates the repair. Freezing rain practically paralyzed Vladivostok. Fallen trees cut wires, in some places branches fell on cars and blocked roads. During the night, 10 mm of precipitation fell in the city. There is heavy ice on the tracks in places. The city of Artem suffered the most; an emergency regime was introduced there.

Nomadic Ethnic Wedding Unusual Cultures/Siberia

We continue to study the wedding traditions of the peoples of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). This time our hosts went to the picturesque valley of Tuymaada for a real Even wedding. Why did they have to go to the celebration on foot, what does the dead fox have to do with the wedding, will the groom stand the test of pain, what task the mother-in-law should perform the daughter-in-law, why do the newlyweds hide behind a blanket at their own celebration and can the guests of the capital eat a local delicacy - raw deer liver and Bone marrow?

Caracal's Ear Flipping-Shooting Jump Catch Bird Flying

This medium-size wildcat roams the savannas, deserts, and forests of much of Africa and parts of the Middle East. Its coat is typically a tawny or reddish gold with a white chin, throat, and underside. All cats are regal, of course, but the caracal actually seems to have a crown: Its large, pointy ears, tipped with black and tufted, are a trademark of the species. These extraordinary ears each have over 20 muscles that swivel around like satellite dishes to detect sounds of their prey. The tufts may enhance sound going into their ears or be used to communicate—via twitches and other movements—with other caracals. Powerful hunters The fastest of the smaller African wildcats, caracals are supreme hunters. Their sandy-colored coats provide camouflage, and stiff fur cushioning their footpads makes them nearly silent stalkers. Caracals are opportunistic predators, going after whatever they can find, including birds, rodents, mongoose, hyraxes, and even small monkeys. Strong hind legs

Tour Nikko/Dokkugawa(德川家康) Cultures

Travel video about destination Nikko in Japan. North of Tokyo, and surrounded by extensive woodland, is the shrine complex of Nikko. The elegant Taiyuin-Byo Shrine uniquely combines the shrine and temple architecture of the Momayama Era. The Futarasan Shrine lies opposite, almost hidden within the hills and forests which, particularly in autumn, enchant with a blaze of vivid colour. The first Tokugawa-Shogun, Ieyasu, left precise regulations for his burial. As both an incarnation of a Buddhist and Shinto deity, the powerful ruler wanted to protect his empire even in death. Twenty years after Ieyasu‘s demise, his grandson Iemitsu assembled up to fifteen thousand craftsmen and over a hundred of the most important artists of the time. Influenced by the Chinese Kano School, and in only two years of construction, they created massive monuments on the edge of the Nikko Mountains, the complex of which comprises both a Buddhist and Shinto area. Bird Blue Jay Eating Wasp & Larvae

Wasps are carnivorous insects but they too have predators including larger insects, amphibians, reptiles and birds. There are a number of birds that will eat wasps given the chance while other species appear to have an affinity for wasp or wasp larvae will specifically seek out nests to feed. Examples of birds that eat wasps include chipping sparrows, gray catbirds, warblers, orioles, bluebirds, chickadees, blackbirds, starlings, wrens and nighthawks. Most birds are insect eaters so this is not an exhaustive list. Given that birds prey on wasps, one may wonder whether the birds don’t get stung or aren’t affected by wasp venom. Like most other creatures, birds aren’t necessarily impervious to stings and employ interesting measures to feed on wasps.

Farming Swiftlet Nests/U$6000-/Kg

Up there on the weirdest-things-you-can-eat list has to be bird's nest soup. It would be weird enough just to eat your standard twiggy-grassy robin's nest, but this predominantly Chinese delicacy is made almost entirely from the goopy spit of a southeast Asian bird called a swiftlet (check out a couple of close-up nest photos over at EatingAsia). The birds glue their nests hundreds of feet high on sheer cave walls. When cooked, they yield a slick, nearly flavorless broth that's prized for such medicinal chestnuts as increased longevity and, you guessed it, libido. Unfortunately, swiftlets are not an invasive species we can proudly devour. To the contrary, growing demand from a prosperous China is compromising the birds' ability to continue, uh, spitting out the nests. It doesn't help that the sticky nests are the devil to clean, so collectors take the nests before they've been used to raise any young swiftlets. And in a weird double-twist, an unlikely solutio

Mango Topped Rice Cooked in Coconut Milk

The main reason I order Thai food is for the mango sticky rice. It's one of my top 10 favorite desserts. This is a classic take on the Thai dessert and uses a different method than you would expect for cooking rice. Traditionally, you're looking for a fluffy, almost dry rice, but here you are going for a sticky, thick rice mixture that's just barely cooked through. Cooking in coconut milk will give you the most flavorful rice, without any effort. This is a great dessert to be able to make ahead as it's good either cold or at room temperature.

Polish Street Food Meat Mainly/No Noodle

From steaming piles of cream-cheese dough packets dressed in oil (ruski perogi) and deep bowls of blood-red burak soup (barszcz czerwony), to salty herring dolloped with sour cream and herbs, white soup swimming with sausage and egg (Żurek), and schnitzel style cutlets with salty potatoes (kotlet schabowy), Polish cuisine can really pack a punch when it comes to the variety field. But it doesn’t stop there. While not quite the sprawling street food, hawker markets of Southeast Asia, Polish street food is still very much alive, (and tasty). A stroll through Krakow’s Rynek Główny (Market Square), or the stary miasto (old town) in Warsaw will invariably reveal Polish street food in all its glory, from the hand held, blood red kiełbasa sausage to the pizza style, half baguette, zapiekanki, and a myriad of different soups.

Dim Sum and Chinese Brunch In the west, dim sum came about as a natural result of 19th-century Chinese immigrants—most of whom were from the Canton region—settling on the East and West coasts. It is true that the word brunch only came into existence in the late 1800s.

Deep Sea Jellyfish Bright Fireworks

We're starting this year with deep sea fireworks, and a spirit of exploration! When something remarkable floats by in the middle of sampling operations, our team quickly switches gears to marvel and document. The frilled tentacles of the Halitrephes maasi jelly came into view at 1225m in the Revillagigedo Archipelago off Baja California, Mexico. Radial canals that move nutrients through the jelly's bell form a starburst pattern that reflects the lights of ROV Hercules with bright splashes of yellow and pink--but without our lights this gelatinous beauty drifts unseen in the dark.

Give us to cherish life’s perishable beauty That it may be imperishably present with us, And may we so pass through the things that are fleeting As to be richer in the things that endure. GUIDE US Guide us, True Light; Quicken us, True Life; Feed us, True Bread; That our hunger for You may be fed, And that we may be led Into the Way of Peace. PRIORITIES Wisdom, be more precious than possessions without end. Truth, be more sacred than the pleasing of a friend. Courage, be our strength to gain the distant goal. Beauty, send cleansing wonders through the soul.

Translucent Deepstaria Jelly/Ghostlike Transformations

This translucent Deepstaria jelly unfurled as it whorled and shapeshifted in currents created by ROV Hercules' thrusters. Its bright red resident isopod, a relative of the pillbug, can be spotted hanging on for the ride! Lacking stinging tentacles like other jellies, Deepstaria can close the opening of its expansive bag-like bell, trapping any prey that has floated inside. The geometric mesh pattern is an intricate network of canals that lead back to its stomach at the top of the bell. As the jelly can reach a large size when inflated, these channels help distribute nutrients across the entire expanse. Like many Deepstaria, this observed specimen included a bright red isopod taking up residence in the scyphozoan’s bell. The full extent of this association is unknown, but it is likely that this small crustacean consumes pieces of jelly while remaining hidden from predators.

African Chicken Looks Odd

This dish was actually invented in the 1940s in Macau, a former Portuguese colony. No one knows for sure why it was named African Chicken, since the chef who originally created it passed away about 30 years later, but it is a possible nod to Portugal's Moorish history. The marinade is very similar to that for Frango Grehaldo (Portuguese grilled chicken), but the idea of using coconut milk for the basting sauce probably came from Goa, another former Portuguese colony.

The humphead wrasse is an enormous coral reef fish—growing over six feet long—with a prominent bulge on its forehead. Some of them live to be over 30 years old. WWF urges local governments in the Coral Triangle to stop the trade and consumption of humphead wrasse—one of the most expensive live reef fishes in the world. Live reef fish trade in Southeast Asia continues to be a significant problem that threatens the region’s food security as well as its reefs, as poachers often resort to legal and destructive fishing methods to catch them.

Animal Swarm Fatality

Bee swarm – Honeybees swarm when the colony grows too big for its current hive. The queen and up to 60 per cent of the worker bees leave the hive and settle on a tree branch a few metres away. Other workers scout out possible new nest sites over the course of a few days and then the swarm flies together to establish a new colony. Locust swarm – Locusts are the final adult stage of certain grasshopper species. In crowded conditions, the grasshoppers will change into a ravenous, fast-breeding form. The population quickly explodes into swarms of billions and each locust will eat its own body weight in plant matter every day. Large locust swarms can cover an area the size of Greater London. Sardine swarmStarling swarm – Starlings are highly social birds and will often congregate in large flocks of up to a million. This reduces the risk of predation from birds of prey as they move between roosting sites and feeding grounds, because the swirling mass is hard to target. Flocks often conta

Korean Condiment Pepper Paste/Gochujang

What Is Gochujang? Gochujang is a red chile paste that also contains glutinous rice, fermented soybeans, salt, and sometimes sweeteners. It’s a thick, sticky condiment that’s spicy and very concentrated and pungent in flavor. Heat levels can vary between brands, so check the packaging to see if it’s labeled with any kind of spice-level indicator. How to Use Gochujang Think of gochujang as similar to miso paste — a little goes a long way, but it’s also very versatile. Gochujang can be used in marinades for meat dishes like Korean bulgogi, stirred into dipping sauces, or used to punch up stews or soups. The thick texture of gochujang means that it is a bit difficult to use straight up, so it is usually thinned out with a liquid of some sort. Also remember that if the gochujang contains sugar, searing or grilling meats marinated with it have a tendency to burn easily.

Red Snapper(鲷)Fishing/One of Top Expensives South Korea

Catching red snapper is easy. In fact, some grouper fishermen will tell you that it's too easy because the aggressive snapper will get to their baits before a grouper can even think about eating them. Catching trophy red snapper is another story. Yes, anglers can and sometimes do luck into a 20-plus-pounder or even a 30-pounder, but to consistently catch the big girls, success typically depends on three factors: Fishing the right spot with the right tackle and optimal bait, says Capt. Judy Helmey of Savannah, Georgia.

Pink Grouper(濃魚)Sashimi

Uses in Cooking: The softer fish will get mushy if overcooked, but they have strong connective tissues that need to be broken down. They do well when deep fried, grilled, sauteed, or baked. Blackening is not a great choice as it is too quick to soften up the natural collagen in these fish. Similar Fish: Red Grouper, Black Grouper, Black Seabass Description: The soft meat of this fish holds together well, but has a more delicate mouth feel than fish like snapper. They have large flakes and a moderate flavor that is unique and generally pleasing. Fun Facts: These are a premium fish with interesting flavors and a pretty high yield, but they seem to have only been discovered by Asian cooks. I have never found them in any other markets. Maybe this is due to their creepy appearance, something that many American consumers shy away from.

Coconut Crab Formidable Power Peeling off Coconut Crust(Rock Solid)

These great omnivores enjoy many different foods, although they number favorite is, of course, coconuts. Despite the notoriously tough outer shell, these tenacious crabs begin by tearing the husk, fiber by fiber, until it the hairy outside is completely removed. This can take several hours or even days. The task was so arduous researchers once believed it likely wasn't even possible for the crab to do it at all until they witnessed it first-hand. They use their hammer-strong claws to dig into one of the "eye holes" until there is an opening, and suck out the liquid before cracking the whole thing open to eat the tender, white meat inside, which makes up the majority of their diet. Their great size has been attributed to this plentiful food source, although the crabs also feed on a variety of other protein-rich items. They use their extremely well-developed sense of smell to find all sorts of beach goodies and will eat basically any organic matter they come across

Black Ramen Toyama(富山) Japan

Taiki’s ramen in Toyama, Japan is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or tasted. Considered to be some of the best ramen in the country, its noodles sit in a jet-black soup. Tobaco Handed from Japan's Invasion

There is no accurate record of the route and the beggining of tobacco in our country. 芝峰類說』, which was written in 1614 (the 6th year of King Gwanghaegun's reign), records that "the cigarette invitation was only made in the modern Japanese Empire (Japan), also known as Namryeongcho." In 1632 (the 10th year of King Injo's reign), "谿谷漫筆" written by 張維 (1587-1638) recorded that tobacco was handed down from Japan. "星湖僿說 ," a book compiled by nephews and nephews around 1740, states, "When phlegm does not fall off your neck, when you feel uncomfortable lying down due to indigestion, it is good to smoke in the middle of winter." "Jibong Yuseol" and "Geogok Manpil," written about the transfer of tobacco, records that they came from Japan during the reign of King Gwanghaegun. Therefore, we can see that cigarettes came from Japan in the early 17th century. Of course, Japan is imported from Spain. That's why the phoneme c

Humphead Parrotfish Biting Solid Reef

The large size, slow growth and schooling behavior of this species mean it is susceptible to overfishing.[5] This species is highly sought after by fishermen throughout its range, and it has declined from overharvesting[9]. Spearfishers and netters target large groups as they sleep at night.[10] The species was identified as a Species of Concern by NOAA/NMFS in 2004,[11] meaning that the species is thought to be threatened, but insufficient data are available to justify a listing under the Endangered Species Act.[12][13] Habitat degradation and destruction has accelerated the decline. Juvenile habitats are susceptible to being degraded by poor water quality, such as run-off of sediments from logging.[6] Spearfishing while scuba diving was banned in American Samoa in 2001.[14] The waters surrounding Wake Island, Johnston Atoll, and Palmyra Atoll from the shoreline out to 50 fathoms (91 m) are protected as low-use marine protected areas, which means any person of the United States fi

Flocked Octopus Brooding Seabed/Phenominal View

If last week's incredible footage of a Dumbo octopus wasn't enough to satisfy your cephalopod fancies, researchers exploring the depths of California's Monterey Bay have discovered an enormous octopus nursery. Some 1,000 creatures were lying on the craggy seabed almost 10,500 feet below the surface. The largest discovery of its kind, many appeared to be inverted around eggs and even embryos in footage that was streamed live online. Rows and rows of the eight-legged Muusoctopus robustus lay splayed among the rocks of the Southeast Davidson Seamount. "There's like three rivers flowing into this one here—three rivers of octopus," one crew member is heard saying in the video. "You can see lines of octopuses snaking up this formation of volcanic rock," she added.

Tuna Fishing Vessel Routines

There are three closely related types of Bluefin Tuna - the Pacific (Thunnus orientalis), Atlantic (Thunnus thynnus) and Southern (Thunnus maccoyii), each inhabiting waters designated by their name. As other Tuna fish, chilly seas pose no problem - their highly developed thermoregulatory system allows for keeping their body temperature up to 36°F warmer than the surrounding water, which not only means they can thrive in great geographical latitudes, but in great depths as well. Not losing heat through their gills also dramatically adds to their stamina, making them extremely fast (can swim up to 40mph) and endurant (Gordon Johnson speaks about a 62 hour long fight in his book, "It Happened in Canada") predators. Big Bluefin Tuna on a fishing boat An interesting fact about red-flesh fish is that their meat was regarded as a low class food in Japan before refrigeration was invented, as it was basically impossible to conserve. The popularity of sushi, however, brought t

Lobster vs Trigger Fish

The 40 species of triggerfish are scattered throughout the world’s seas and are familiar to divers and aquarium aficionados. Largest of all is the stone triggerfish, which reaches up to 3.3 feet long, found in the Eastern Pacific from Mexico to Chile. Feeding These bottom dwellers dig out prey, such as crabs and worms, by flapping away debris with their fins and sandblasting with water squirted from their mouths. They also use very tough teeth and jaws to take on sea urchins, flipping them over to get at their bellies, which are armed with fewer spines. Triggerfish wreak such havoc on less fortunate reef dwellers that smaller fish often follow them to feast on their leftovers. Behavior and Reproduction The Balistidae family takes its common name from a set of spines the fish use to deter predators or to “lock” themselves into holes, crevices, and other hiding spots. The system can be "unlocked" by depressing a smaller, “trigger” spine. Triggerfish tend to be solitary b

Catching Bonito(Kindred to Tuna)

Bonito, (genus Sarda), tunalike schooling fish of the tuna and mackerel family, Scombridae (order Perciformes). Bonitos are swift, predacious fishes found worldwide. They have striped backs and silvery bellies and grow to a length of about 75 cm (30 inches). Like tunas, they are streamlined, with a narrow tail base, a forked tail, and a row of small finlets behind the dorsal and anal fins. Bonitos are of both commercial and sporting value. Four species are generally recognized: S. sarda of the Atlantic and Mediterranean, S. orientalis of the Indo-Pacific, S. chilensis of the eastern Pacific, and S. australis of Australia and New Zealand.

Sarcastic Fringehead Snout Flipping bulge

Folks, meet the sarcastic fringehead. Where did this colorful title come from, you might ask? While “sarcastic” is often used to describe one’s humor, the word originates from the Greek sarkasmós, which means to bite or tear. The first part of the name refers to the sarcastic fringehead’s series of needle-sharp teeth that it uses to bite into its prey (although maybe it has a biting sense of humor too, who knows?) “Fringehead” comes from the soft appendages that rise above its head. Together, they make one of the weirdest names in the ocean (whoever named this guy must have had fun). A type of blenny, the sarcastic fringehead is recognizable by its brown-grey coloring with patches of red or green. They have disproportionally large heads and jaws and long, slender bodies. Although they can grow to about a foot in length, they average around 3-8 inches. IAEA Nodded Japan's Nuked Stuff Thrown Into Ocean?

The IAEA say that nuclear waste caused by the 2011 nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi reactors in Japan, has caused dangerous amounts of radioactive materials to spill into the Pacific ocean. Anonhq.com reports: When the disaster happened, countries based around the Pacific Ocean were on high alert, due to the potential economic and environmental implications of the disaster. This prompted the IAEA, together with the Regional Cooperative Agreement (RCA) Member States to establish the Technical Cooperation (TC) to monitor the presence of radioactive substances in the marine environment. The TC was also to ensure that seafood from the region was safe for consumption, and to maintain a comprehensive overview and full facts of the accident, considering its grave implications. The first TC annual review meeting was held in August 2012, to demonstrate predictive hydrodynamic models. Experts then predicted that the strong current, known as the Kuroshio Current and its extension,
